- A little history
The Senetosa lighthouse was built late in Corsica’s illumination program. Its construction followed the sinking of the Tasmania It was designed by engineer Zevaco. Work began in 1889 and the lighthouse was lit on May 15, 1892, with a white light flashing every 5 seconds. It signals the sec des moines and the western entrance to the Bouches de Bonifacio.
Originally fueled by mineral oil, the light switched to petroleum vapor in 1906. The lighthouse was subsequently electrified and automated in 1988.
Senetosa was one of the only manned lighthouses in France at the start of the 21st century, its last keepers leaving in 2008.
