Local craftsWhen craftsmanship shapes the island

Ancestral traditions

In Corsica, craftsmanship is a true reflection of the richness and diversity of the region. The craftspeople of our region perpetuate ancestral know-how, handed down from generation to generation, and create unique products, often shaped by nature.

01

The art of cutlery

Corsican knives are also a symbol of local know-how. Made from forged steel, with handles in horn, wood or tortoiseshell, these knives are instruments that combine utility and beauty. Over the centuries, they have become collector’s items prized by craft enthusiasts.

02

Wicker

The work of the osier involves twisting and braiding flexible strands to create everyday objects. Island craftsmen make baskets, hats, pots and even furniture. Wicker is a natural, environmentally-friendly material that embodies the authenticity and beauty of rural Corsica.

03

Pottery

Pottery is also deeply rooted in Corsican culture. The region’s potters create terracotta pieces, often decorated with traditional motifs, which are used both for everyday needs and as decorative objects. Many hoteliers and restaurateurs call on the talents of these local craftsmen to affirm the unique identity of their establishments, the fruit of the imagination of their creators.

Legnu nustrale

One of the island’s most emblematic skills is that of thepipe maker, a tradition that goes back several centuries. Corsica’s last remaining craftsman, based in Fozzano, carves wooden pipes, often made of briar, with exceptional precision, ornamented with motifs and decorated by hand. Each object is a true work of art, combining tradition and aesthetics.

Essential oils

Essential oils are another emblematic feature of Corsica. Thanks to its rich maquis, the island is a veritable botanical treasure trove, teeming with medicinal and aromatic plants with countless virtues. Artisans distil essential oils of immortelle, myrtle, neroli, lavender, rosemary and many others, often used for beauty and well-being treatments, and sometimes even as culinary ingredients.
