Getting there

Authentic Corsican village

Moca Croce is located near Petreto Bicchisano. This commune brings together the ancient hamlets of Moca and Croce, at the centre of a wild area. From the top of this hilltop village, you can enjoy views over the valley below.

First, take the road lined with lime trees and houses dating from the late 19th century. . It is reached via typical Corsican lanes. There is a war memorial and a fortified house, “A Torra”, the oldest part of which dates back to 1572.

Then, in the most important part of the village, below the main road, stands another building from the same period (1598), “A Casa di u Moru”. It owes its name to a granite gallows in the shape of a Moor’s head that hangs from the façade.

The bell tower of the church of Santa Maria Assunta will take you on a journey from the top of its three storeys. With its openwork and lantern, it is one of the most beautiful in the region. At A Sapara, you can discover the Abbadia Santa Maria di Cruscaglia. This recently restored Romanesque chapel was built to accompany a priory that has now completely disappeared. In the 14th century, it belonged to an abbey in Genoa. A bell tower was added in the 17th or 18th century.

And finally, not to be missed: at Torra de Ballestra, the remains of an ancient mill near the “U Rutò” bridge.
