Village with character
Colomba villageAt Fozzano, you’ll walk in the footsteps of Colomba “heroine of Prosper Mérimée’s novel”. A blood feudfuelled by stories of heart and power breaks out between two Corsican families.
First, feel the tormented history of the authentic Corsican village by admiring the ancient “casa forte”. Fortified houses dating from the early Middle Ages.
Then, as you wander around the village, you’re sure to come across the famous tower where this courageous woman lived. After years of fighting, Colomba only agreed to lay down her arms when a peace treaty was signed. When her husband died, she moved to Olmeto in southern Corsica, where she lived out her days. She was buried in the family vault in Fozzano.
From the 15th century onwards, the commune assumed an important position in the Tavaria valley, as far as Campomoro. It is situated at an altitude of 390 metres and covers an area of 1950 hectares. Fozzano offers uninterrupted views over the Baracci valley and the Gulf of Valinco.
And last but not least, don’t miss: the Church of the Annunciation and its chapel dating from the 17th century. They are home to some very beautiful frescoes.
