The Church of SARTENE welcomes Canta U Poupulu Corsu for a concert of polyphonic songs.
"The historic reference group in the history of Corsican music, a forerunner in the revival of singing in the Corsican language".
Canta U Populu Corsu, literally "The Corsican people sings" (or according to one of its oldest members, Cècè (François) Buteau, "This is what the Corsican people sings") is a Corsican music group committed to Corsican nationalism. The group was founded in 1973.
Canta U Populu Corsu is one of the forerunners of the revival of singing in the Corsican language. In 1981, the group set up singing schools all over the island, training young people in polyphonic singing and, above all, in the use of the Corsican language through song.
Since then, they have continued their fight to promote the Corsican language and culture through their various tours of Corsica, as well as performing outside the island.
The group has performed for the Corsican diaspora in other French cities, including Paris (at Le Bataclan in 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2011, Olympia in 2006 and 2009, La Cigale in 2010 and Le Trianon in 2014), Marseille, Lyon, Aix-en-Provence, Chomerac and the Basque Country, as well as in Switzerland, Italy and Ireland.
Artists:
François (Cecce) Butteau
