In the heart of the Rocca region, Fozzano is a village steeped in history, dominating the landscape as far as Campomoro.
From the 15th century onwards, the village occupied a strategic position and became the scene of an eventful history. As you wander through its narrow streets, you'll feel the full intensity of this past, particularly through the old "case forte" (fortified houses), typical of the early Middle Ages.
This authentic setting inspired Prosper Mérimée to write his famous novel Colomba, which is deeply rooted in local history and traditions.
Don't miss the Church of the Annunciation and its 17th-century chapel, home to some remarkable frescoes. The village is also famous for being home to Corsica's last artisan pipe-maker, perpetuating a unique know-how based on working the wood of the maquis.
Nature lovers can take the Mare a Mare Sud hiking trail, which crosses the village and offers superb views between the sea and the mountains.
Fozzano embodies the richness and authenticity of Corsica's history, traditions and landscapes.
