Lying in the natural shelter of the promontory of Scoglio Longo, Propriano stands on a site which has been occupied for centuries and which still retains vestiges of Greek and Roman tombs and ruins, both in the area surrounding the town and on the Îlot de Poraja. The modern town is situated at sea level facing the incomparable Golfe de Valinco. The old town comprises the hamlet of Tivolaggio, built on a granite spur, with its old houses, old bread oven and ruins of a windmill.
