Concert by Terra Mea, Sunday 03 August at the Filitosa fair.
Un Populu chi canta a so terra e a so lingua.
The voices of a people singing their land and their language.
Terra Mea is a polyphonic ensemble formed in 2003.
It's made up of 4 singers from a wide range of musical backgrounds, some of whom come from the 'Riacquistu' (French for 'Reappropriation') movement, a strong cultural movement that emerged in the 1970s, bringing the Corsican language back to the fore and inspiring a wide range of literature and song.
Terra Mea magnifies ancient and contemporary songs that bear witness to a musical culture that has evolved over the centuries on the island, to the rhythm of its history, both in its popular wealth and in its secular and religious music.
Each Terra Mea concert is a polyphonic journey, where the audience is carried away by melodies and harmonies from the modal and tonal traditions.
Its singers will introduce you to the different forms of song in a monodic and polyphonic repertoire, sacred and secular, as well as traditional Corsican songs. Psalms, love songs, the Corsican exodus during the 1st World War, the preservation of our natural and cultural heritage, human rights, solidarity, scenes from pastoral life - these are just some of the themes that will give the audience a better appreciation of all that makes up the soul of the Corsican people, especially as each song is presented and put into context.
Tinged with tragedy, the voices call out to each other and come together to give a sublime concert that conveys intense emotion.
Admission free.
