A village with many faces.
Start by strolling through the cobbled, winding streets of the old town, with its many vaulted passageways. Next, take in the houses with their high stone facades and old red-tiled roofs that line the village. Finally, discover the Romanesque church, the 19th-century wash-house and Colomba Carabelli-Bartoli’s last house. It can only be seen from the outside and will no doubt remind you of Prosper Mérimée’s novel of the same name…
An exceptional view!
Ideally situated on the heights of the Gulf of Valinco, Olmeto offers one of the most coveted views in the micro-region. Its beauty and magnificent views over the deep blue waters will captivate you like everyone else who has passed through.
Come and visit a Corsican town that dates back to the dawn of time.
The commune covers an area of almost 44 km2 formed by several valleys. It is surrounded by granite peaks, ranging from 1,000 m in the north-east to 583 m at the Cilaccia pass. Dominated by the ruins of Castello d’Istria, it marks the boundary with Sollacaro and neighbouring Taravo.
Perched at 340 m on the side of the Punta di Buturetu mountain (871 m), Olmeto was built up from the ninth century onwards in districts containing vaulted passageways and magnificent granite fortified houses.
