Starting from Porto Pollo, a picturesque route through the scrubland leads to the Genoese tower of Capanella, with free access to the summit offering magnificent views over the pretty bay of Cupabia, the Punta and the Capanella cove.
As soon as you set off from the charming seaside village, the path skirts the coastline, revealing a dazzling Mediterranean in shades of blue and turquoise. The scent of the maquis, with its mix of rockroses and immortelles, accompanies the walk and immerses hikers in a typically Corsican atmosphere.
50m further on, turn left onto a path signposted to the left of the road. The path climbs through the scrubland between a low stone wall and a fence. Follow the orange markings.
Looking back as you climb opens up a view of the Taravo valley and the Étang de Tanchiccia.
After about an hour and a half’s walk, the elegant silhouette of the Genoese tower of Capanella appears on the horizon. Standing proudly on its promontory, it bears witness to the island’s defensive past and today offers an incomparable viewpoint. From its summit, you can look out over the Bay of Cupabia on one side, and Porto Pollo and the Gulf of Valinco on the other, in an unspoilt setting.
Accessible to all walkers in good condition, this hike is ideal for a half-day of discovery, between sea and mountains. Bring water, a hat and good shoes to make the most of this sunny walk.
An experience not to be missed for those who want to combine nature, heritage and escape during their stay in Corse-du-Sud.
