Situated partly on the right bank of the Rizzanese, this village overlooks Propriano. A veritable balcony village, Viggianello offers an exceptional panorama that will delight photography enthusiasts or simply lovers of the Gulf of Valinco. You’ll be amazed by the shades of blue.
First of all, take a stroll through the old streets, which bear witness to the way life used to be in Corsican villages. Old houses with carved stone walls, narrow stone-paved streets… the charm is there for all to see.
Next, enter the 19th-century church of Saint Sauveur, with its buttresses. You’ll be able to admire its Romanesque porch, Baroque frescoed ceiling and lanterned bell tower. Take a few minutes to cool off on the benches. Most of the village is made up of hills, dominated by the remains of the medieval castle. A pleasant stroll up the hill through the Corsican maquis.
Last but not least, you’re sure to meet our friends the donkeys and pigs along the way. Not forgetting a fountain, a wash-house and, last but not least, the castle. It’s in ruins, but there’s still a cistern and the room that used to be the kitchen.
The reward at the top is a breathtaking panorama: the Gulf of Valinco, the Aiguilles de Bavella, the Capu di Muro tower… Viggianello and its hamlet of Vetaru are high up, at 325 and 365 metres respectively. Vetaru is well grouped around its belvedere and is in a dominant position.
📷 The panoramic view of the Gulf of Valinco from the village is breathtaking, especially at sunset.
