Description
As part of its outreach programme, the Municipal Theatre presents “Les polyphonies du Valinco”, an exceptional series of polyphonic singing concerts at Propriano Church on 5, 12 and 19 September.
This Saturday, 5 September, the renowned group A FILETTA will fill the Church of Notre Dame de la Miséricorde with the sounds of polyphonic singing.
A Filetta’s music is a journey… One might describe it as a demanding, daring contemporary polyphonic vocal work, rooted in a powerful oral tradition.
It was in 1978 that a group of very young people – some still teenagers, driven by a fierce determination to help preserve an oral heritage in rapid decline – set out on their journey… and their path has been a long one, sometimes winding but marked by discoveries and exceptional encounters.
They very quickly opened themselves up to other fields, disciplines and artists.
A vocal sextet whose trajectory traces a path rooted in age-old oral tradition yet asserting itself through the meandering paths of a composition style that is uninhibited and free from any filial obligation; it brings together sacred and secular songs drawing on diverse influences. Music that serves a worldview which unambiguously rejects any form of identity-based isolation, and whose philosophy could be summed up by this beautiful aphorism by René Char: ‘The purest harvests are sown in soil that does not exist; they dispense with gratitude and owe everything to spring’.
