Description
As part of its outreach programme, the Municipal Theatre presents “Les polyphonies du Valinco”, an exceptional series of polyphonic singing concerts at Propriano Church on 5, 12 and 19 September.
This Saturday, 19 September, the renowned group A RICUCCATA will fill the Church of Notre Dame de la Miséricorde with the sounds of polyphonic singing.
A Ricuccata is a Corsican polyphonic ensemble founded in 1995. It comprises six singers who are committed to passing on the traditional musical heritage they have inherited and bringing it into the modern era.
It is in this spirit, and primarily under the artistic direction of Francescu Berlinghi – who holds a PhD in ethnomusicology and is a state-certified teacher of traditional singing – that A Ricuccata has been developing its musical repertoire for over 20 years now. This repertoire, comprising both secular and sacred songs, is based on the musical structures of traditional Corsican polyphony, known as ‘cantu in paghjella’. It naturally includes traditional pieces, as well as contemporary compositions and adaptations of works originating from various regions of the world, particularly the Mediterranean basin.
