Description
As part of its outreach programme, the Municipal Theatre presents “Les polyphonies du Valinco”, an exceptional series of polyphonic singing concerts at Propriano Church on 5, 12 and 19 September.
This Saturday, 12 September, the group SPARTIMU will fill the Church of Notre Dame de la Miséricorde with the sounds of polyphonic singing.
Entirely dedicated to traditional polyphony, the Spartimu ensemble has been exploring the oral traditions of Corsica for several years.
Based on musicological research and the practice of ‘cantu in paghjella’, the ensemble’s projects also bring together the repertoires of several countries within this vast geographical area, stretching from Mediterranean Europe to the peaks of the Caucasus.
These encounters between musical styles, repertoires and practices – which at first glance seem very distant from one another – have become a hallmark of the ensemble, attracting an audience ever more curious to discover what hue a new project will take on, and what colour the ensemble will have chosen to adopt.
Spartimu is regularly invited to perform at various international festivals. The ensemble has performed notably in Sardinia, Lithuania, Georgia, Chicago and Melbourne (Australia).
