Description

With Nepita, Alexandre Diani, a Corsican singer-songwriter, creates a unique style of French indie pop – a subtle blend of his influences, ranging from the 1970s to indie pop from the 1990s to the present day. His lyrics reflect the innocent perspective of a narrator who grew up in a village, a world far removed from the places the musician later travelled to in pursuit of music, and from the ambiguous relationships that arise between the beach and the city, between the screen and reality. Alexandre Diani knows the village very well; it was there that he learnt to sing by imitating his mother as she sang songs by Brassens and Brel. When he was ten, he discovered the joy of writing through his diary, to which he confided his father’s illness and then his death. His mother then realised that only singing could bring him peace and security. They spent their summer evenings sneaking into the karaoke sessions at holiday centres. “Singing Brel in front of hundreds of attentive holidaymakers was, for me, the ultimate achievement.” At secondary school, whilst singing Corsican songs in a group, he found himself stepping in at short notice to replace a rock singer for the end-of-year party. He was completely blown away by rock ’n’ roll; he was now certain he had to set off to see what was happening elsewhere. His first EP, *Pas Pareil*, was released in 2024; he is now working as part of a band to compose the project’s debut album, alongside Thibaut Bresson (Lumio) on keyboards and production, Bastien Costa on guitar and Julien Antoniotti on drums.
