🥾 30-minute walk

Discover this authentic heritage, which is very well preserved. Inside, a permanent exhibition traces the history of the Genoese Towers in Corsica and the barbarian invasions.

Proudly overlooking the Gulf of Valinco, the Genoese Tower of Campomoro is one of the most impressive in Corsica… and with good reason: with its exceptional diameter of 15 metres, it is the largest Genoese tower on the island!

Built in 1586 by the Genoese, it was part of a vast defensive system designed to protect the Corsican coast against invasions by barbarian pirates, which were very common at the time. The distinctive feature of the Campomoro tower is not only its size, but also its star-shaped ramparts.

Its solid construction, thick walls and strategic elevated position meant that the inhabitants could take refuge in the event of an attack and the lookouts could keep an eye on the horizon. Once danger had been signalled, neighbouring towers could communicate by fire or smoke signals, creating an effective warning chain along the coastline.

Restored in the XXᵉ century, the tower has regained all its splendour and today welcomes visitors.
